New Baby Dolphin Spotted on Valentine's Day

Kratie: A second baby dolphin in 2024 was spotted by researchers in the Mekong River on Valentine's Day.

On February 14, 2024, researchers from the Fisheries Administration and WWF observed a newborn dolphin swimming alongside a pod of seven adult dolphins in Kampi Canyon, Kratie Province.

The Mekong River dolphin is revered as a living national treasure in Cambodia and is listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

"In collaboration, we strive to protect the Mekong dolphins and ensure the Mekong River, their habitat, remains free-flowing. This effort is to safeguard this invaluable resource for future generations. What a truly joyous Valentine's Day this year," stated WWF.

It's worth mentioning that on February 11, 2024, the first baby dolphin of the year was observed by river guards in Kampi Canyon Chroy Banteay. This newborn, only two days old, was discovered by a patrolling river guard and reported to a search and rescue team.
